Bobit Business Media Acquired by Colin Sutherland

September 23, 2024

Bobit Business Media returns to being a family-owned business under new ownership of Colin Sutherland, effective today.

Colin Sutherland’s passion for business marketing goes back to 1988 when he joined his family’s successful business-to-business marketing agency.  He was first introduced to Bobit Business Media (Bobit) as he co-founded and led the sales and marketing direction of Geotab, now a global provider of telematics, engine diagnostics, and software systems that small business trucking companies rely on. As an experienced marketer and consultative salesperson, he shaped the company’s sales channel strategy and developed a large ecosystem of partners that is now global.

“In growing a business, it is essential to find a trusted media partner whose content is authentic, unbiased, and speaks truth to its readers and content followers,” shares Colin Sutherland. “In Bobit, I found the partner to associate my company brand and my precious advertising dollars.”

Now, after a wonderful, successful career helping thousands of businesses and individuals navigate how technology can support their objectives to improve safety, reduce downtime, and increase productivity, Sutherland is focused on the mission to help business owners face decisions and evaluate options for their growth.

“Late last year, I began exploring the relationship between content creation, content delivery, content consumption, and measuring outcomes. I retired from Geotab in August and bought a film production studio in the summer to produce streaming content connecting the stories of small business owners, the headwinds they are facing, and the ecosystem of companies that offer solutions,” states Sutherland. “The truth is that most small business owners don’t have business operations, IT departments, or procurement departments to help evaluate options. I want to help solve some of the puzzles, but time is of the essence, and I could not grow my production studio quickly enough to have a positive impact on business owners.”

Sutherland recognized that with Bobit, he would have an organization that was aligned with his mission. “There has never been a more challenging time to be a business owner and marketer.  I assure our partners that we will continue to be your trusted partner in marketing, to help you evaluate options for your brand awareness and share of market goals.  I assure you that our content and events will remain authentically people-engaged experiences.”

Colin Sutherland’s message:

“To our past, present, and future advertisers and sponsors of our events, I promise to always be collaborative, understand your goals, and be accountable for the outcomes we deliver.

“To our readers, I promise to explore your business challenges with you, and I promise to explore how to best deliver our content in print, digital, events, social media, and streaming content so you don’t miss anything strategic.

“To our employees, I promise to listen, to mentor, and to be transparent as we dedicate ourselves to human-written original content, along with multi-media content delivery and consumption.”

Effective immediately, Colin Sutherland will lead Bobit as CEO. “I am excited for our mutual future together.”

More about Colin Sutherland

Working agency-side, Sutherland consulted with world-leading brands including Freightliner Canada’s aftermarket division developing programs to support sales of private label and hundreds of suppliers.

In 1996, Sutherland accepted a position within Freightliner Canada to lead sales and marketing of parts and dealer marketing programs. It was during his time with Freightliner that he became excited with emerging technologies, including telematics, engine diagnostics, and software systems that small business trucking companies rely on. After five years of growth and shepherding his business division through challenging headwinds in the trucking industry in 2000, Sutherland decided to commit himself to the opportunity to help businesses learn more about the positive impact that vehicle-generated data can have in strategic planning. Like some great entrepreneurial success stories, it was kismet that he met the CEO of Geotab during this time and joined the start-up working as a small business of four employees.

Sutherland’s history with Bobit goes back over 20 years as he co-founded and led the sales and marketing direction of Geotab as he helped to grow Geotab into a global organization.

August 1, 2024, Colin Sutherland purchased Super Creative Media, a production studio based in Van Nuys, CA.
