History

Bobit Business Media (BBM) was a family-run media powerhouse for over 60 years, founded in 1961 by Ed Bobit with the launch of our flagship publication, Automotive Fleet.

Originally founded in Illinois, Ed moved the company to Southern California in 1977. “We had lived most of our lives in the Chicago area and really just wanted to experience winters without shoveling snow!” said Ed Bobit, who passed away in 2014. The company became one of the strongest B2B media forces in the West and acquired several new titles.

The company jumped into digital media with both feet in 1996 by setting up industry websites for all of its brands. Employing an in-house team, Bobit Business Media websites are leaders in their markets.

BBM was acquired by private equity firm, Gemspring Capital, in the fall of 2018. BBM’s family-run business values remained during its years with Gemspring.

In September of 2024, BBM was acquired by owner and CEO, Colin Sutherland. Colin came to BBM as an established leader with a successful career helping thousands of businesses and individuals navigate how technology can support their objectives to improve safety, reduce downtime, and increase productivity. With Colin at its helm, BBM’s mission is to help business owners face decisions and evaluate options for their growth. BBM continues to be a trusted partner in marketing, helping companies evaluate options for brand awareness and share of market goals.

Although still headquartered in Southern California, BBM associates work from offices throughout the United States.
